ABOUT US

The Flying Fish is idyllically situated on the beachfront of Horseshoe Bay, Port Elliot. Our name pays homage to the two-masted schooner that tragically met its fate on these shores in December 1860, The Flying Fish was one of several ships lost in the bay during its time as a bustling seaport.

During a fierce southwest gale, the vessel broke from her moorings and was violently driven onto the rocks at Commodore Point. In a legendary display of bravery, a local man named Agen Dent tied a line around his waist and swam out into the raging surf, single-handedly rescuing all nine crew members.

The Flying Fish Cafe first opened on the 11th December 1997 and is a proud, locally run business, it is currently managed by Head Chef Nathan Francis and a dedicated team of hospitality professionals. Together, the team is committed to providing a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere where exceptional customer service and great food come together on the lovely beachfront of Horseshoe Bay.

Drawing inspiration from our stunning coastal setting, the kitchen team crafts seasonal menus bursting with flavor, creativity, and the finest South Australian produce. Beyond the daily restaurant and kiosk offerings, The Flying Fish also provides bespoke catering services tailored for weddings, birthdays, corporate events, and special celebrations.
